The Beggening, Part 6

When we woke up we swapped stories about our lives. We started with mine. I told them that I was from a wolf pack from (where I assumed) far away. I told them how I was shot with one of the pointy things, waking up in the zoo, and missing my pack. I think the others' stories were more interesting.

Tekah was from a place called Africa. She described wide open, hot safaris, little trees, and the other animals that lived there. She told me the thing that had almost crushed me was an elephant. She said that she was taken the same way I was, with the pointy thing. She had been protecting her cubs from the fur less primates (humans) when they had come. The she woke up in a small dark box with a horrible rocking sensation. Then they dumped her in the zoo.

Goger had been born in the zoo. He had been taken to a horrible place that was all white. Everything had been white. It smelled of horrible liquids and fear from other animals. The humans that had taken him into one of the white, white rooms and poked one of the pointy things in him (surprise, surprise). Then everything went black... and stayed black. When Goger had woken up it was as if all the lights in the world had gone out. His eyes and the skin around them hurt terribly. When they dumped him back into the zoo, did he realize that he had turned blind. He would never see anything from the world again.

And that was how it started, with a homesick pup, a lioness that had been snatched away from her young cubs, and a blue heron whose vision was stolen from humans. Let me tell you this: It didn't get any better.

The Beggening, Part 5

We finally found a suitable den-like structure in the farthest part of the crevice. It spooked me how everything was perfectly straight or smooth. My rescuer finally put me down. I turned around to say "thank you" but the words caught in my throat.

Standing before me was the biggest feline I had ever seen. Sure, I've seen bob cats before, but this creature was HUGE! She had fawn colored fur and radiant golden eyes. Her ears were rounded instead of pointed and the end of her tail had a brown fluff. She toward over me with definitely 200 pounds of muscle, at least. I barley came up to her barrel chest. "Wha- wha-," I started, but quickly corrected my self, "er, who are you?"

The big cat smiled warmly, showing huge, sharp teeth. I winced. "I am Tekah. I am a lioness." Her voice was deep, but gentle. It seemed to rumble in my bones. She sat down and abruptly began to lick herself. "Oh. Um... thank you for saving me. I, uh, really appreciate it..." I whispered. "There, there, little one," Tekah said soothingly, "I will not hurt you. You remind me of my cubs back home." Her eyes stared into a land only seen by her. I noticed the difference in her voice, almost like an accent where was she from? Then I remembered the big blue bird. I turned to him. "Who are you?" I asked timidly. "I am Goger. I am a blue heron," he replied with out turning his head to me. He wasn't looking around or making eye contact with me or Tekah. It kind of creeped me out.

It was hard to settle down for the night. My most recent home had just burned and my only companions were a heron and a lioness. Who knew if she would eat me in my sleep? I had to take chance. Exhaustion over came me and I fell asleep listening to the angry noises of this strange place.

The Beggening, Part 4

The mass of frightened animals, screeching and crying out as they scrambled to find an exit almost over whelmed me. It was all I could do to not curl up in a ball, shut my eyes, and die. But my mother had taught me better. She bore it into my wee brain that in any situation I had to survive. So I did.

Dodging paws, hooves, talons, and other stuff I couldn't describe I nimbly ran for my life. Humans were running around and unsuccessfully try to dodge the hoard of chaotic animals. I only saw a few animals that I could recognize. Others were completely alien to me. I almost got stepped on by a huge gray wrinkly animal that had a long, long nose and big, big teeth. It was about to step on me with it's flat bottom foot when someone, or something, snatched me by the scruff of my neck. Sharp teeth almost pierced through my skin. I was thankful anyone had saved me. I tried to twist around to see who my savor was, but her or she was running to fast.

A large blue bird was standing very still in the middle of a clearing. It's misty eyes showed confusion and frustration. What was he doing? "Over here!" I yelled. He definitely smelled prey-like, but I wanted to help anyone I could. "Follow us!" The bird swung it's head in our direction. He took a few hesitant steps, but then started galloping over. My rescuer kept on running. She took a quick turn and came upon a seven foot tall wall. My heart almost stopped. We'd never make it. But she kept on running until she gave a huge leap and cleared the wall with inches to spare. A flutter of wings behind us meant the bird had made it too. My rescuer kept going.

What seemed to be huge straight mountains toward over us. Big color full monsters roared down brightly lined paths. Squeals, honks, rumbles, and all sorts of other noises tormented our sensitive ears. My rescuer kept running, almost knocking over surprised humans. She suddenly turned into a small crevice between two tower-mountains and headed into the unknown.

The Beggening, Part 3

I finally got used to the idea of being in the zoo after a month or so. All I had to do was ignore the stare from the hideous human faces, get used to having an actually meal every day, and ignore the aching feeling every time I thought of home. The other wolves were friendly enough, but I had a feeling this was only temporary. Soon my pack would come and rescue me. All I had to do was sit tight. Alas, this was not the case.

One very hot, cloudless, sunny day something absolutely awful happened. I was playing with the younger wolves (who, in a normal pack, would be babysitting the pups anyway) in the little shade that our enclosure had. The sun was beating down and our thick coats weren't helping. No one wanted to go into the small pond because it was warm and practically steaming. Not many humans were at the zoo either. Even Tirra was being affected by the heat. She seemed like she didn't have it in her to boss us around today.

Suddenly, Qin looked up from playing with me and sniffed the air. "I smell... smoke," he said. I stopped and sniffed too. Sure enough a rough, strange odor wafted into my nose. "What is smoke?" I asked. "It's the stuff fire spits out," Igna replied solemnly. Before I could ask what a fire was, a wave of heat barreled into me. I wheezed. "Run! Go! Get out of here, all of you!" Poutner barked. He was on his all four paws, hackles up. He smelled entirely of fear. I looked where he was staring and saw red, flickering stuff consuming half of our encloser. The other wolves scrambled into a panic. We ran around looking for an exit. All of a sudden I knew what fire was.

Then a blood curdling screech rang in every corner of our encloser. I finally found a small hole, big enough even for Malidy, the biggest of all of us. "Over here! Quick!" I cried. I scrambled through the hole before I could get trampled. I ran out into the middle of the zoo. A quick look behind me and I saw Poutner sitting and watching us from inside as the flames grew stronger and stronger around him. "Go!" He yelled, "Don't mind me! It is my time!" And then all heck broke out in the zoo.

The Beggening, Part 2

I was unmistakabley in a zoo. At first it seemed like the most horrible thing in the world. New, unrecognizable smells were sucked into my nose to fast for my small pup brain to handle. The other wolves were some what friendly, but they kept there distance. From some of there scents I picked up that they were brought up in the zoo. Others, like me, were taken.

I was the youngest one there. Thankfully I could eat regular meat instead of milk or regurgitated food (that would have been embarrassing). For the first few days, I refused to eat anything or be with anyone. I huddled in the far corner of the encloser. Humans came to stick more pointy things in me. I tried to fight them but they were too many. I could smell that they were trying to be friendly, but that didn't trick me.

Finally, they had me pressed on the ground with five of them stabbing five needles into my legs, back and rump. They stung for a few minutes, but the pain was gone by the end of the day.

Wolves, being pack animals, I finally had to go and mingle with the rest of the wolves. I found out that they weren't really a pack. With no hunting, rival wolves, or anything else a normal wolf should do, a pack hadn't really formed. There were seven wolves in all, not including me. Tirra, Widily, Poutner, Igna, Zeska, Qin, Yik, and Malidy. There ages ranged from two to ten. Poutner was the oldest. He had white and gray fur all over him. His bones were weak and he barley moved. Tirra seemed to be the alpha even though there wasn't a pack. That didn't stop her from bossing around the rest of us. I was the omega, but the others reassured me and kept me comfort. I still whined at night for my mother and pack mates...

The Beggening, Part 1

My life started as any normal wolf pup should: I came into the world in a small, dark den. Weeks later I opened my eyes to see my kind mother. Of course I had thee obnoxious brothers who liked to pick on the runt, me. A few weeks later I was the biggest of all of them and got pay back. At five weeks of age, I was separated from my pack (it's a little fuzzy because I was so young). Suddenly I was wondering the forest around my home not knowing where I was or where I was going. Before I knew what was going on, a sharp thing stabbed me in my small thigh. I woke up in a totally different world. The sent of fear was everywhere. Wolves, from all sorts of different packs were lounging around, looking bored. The worst part of all, were the ugly, hairless, starring faces gazing at me behind an almost invisible wall. More later.

First off...

Where do I begin? So much has happened to me and so much more will come. If haven't already guessed, I'm a wolf. On an epic adventure to my home where I was taken. More on that later. Anyway, my name is Lupus Howl (a.k.a Lup). My best friends are a full grown lioness, Tekah; a blind herron, Goger; and a chipmunk with too much attitude for it's body, Chub. How did i get strange friends like these you ask? What an excellent question. I hope you have some patience because it's going to take a while to explain it all.
