The Beggening, Part 6

When we woke up we swapped stories about our lives. We started with mine. I told them that I was from a wolf pack from (where I assumed) far away. I told them how I was shot with one of the pointy things, waking up in the zoo, and missing my pack. I think the others' stories were more interesting.

Tekah was from a place called Africa. She described wide open, hot safaris, little trees, and the other animals that lived there. She told me the thing that had almost crushed me was an elephant. She said that she was taken the same way I was, with the pointy thing. She had been protecting her cubs from the fur less primates (humans) when they had come. The she woke up in a small dark box with a horrible rocking sensation. Then they dumped her in the zoo.

Goger had been born in the zoo. He had been taken to a horrible place that was all white. Everything had been white. It smelled of horrible liquids and fear from other animals. The humans that had taken him into one of the white, white rooms and poked one of the pointy things in him (surprise, surprise). Then everything went black... and stayed black. When Goger had woken up it was as if all the lights in the world had gone out. His eyes and the skin around them hurt terribly. When they dumped him back into the zoo, did he realize that he had turned blind. He would never see anything from the world again.

And that was how it started, with a homesick pup, a lioness that had been snatched away from her young cubs, and a blue heron whose vision was stolen from humans. Let me tell you this: It didn't get any better.
